Product Description
Welcome to the latest issue of DVD and Blu-ray World, and the theme this time round is very much one of blazing action. We have an entertaining interview with colourful actor Jamie Foreman, whose dad was a real life East End gangster and associate of the Kray Twins. In fact he was known as 'Brown Bread Fred' and was supposedly involved in the disposal of Jack 'The Hat' McVitie. That ties in neatly with our feature on the best hit man movies ever, to coincide with the release of The Mechanic, a remake of the classic Michael Winner movie. Yes, we know that the words 'Michael Winner 'and 'Classic' would not seem to be natural bedfellows, but we stand by our assessment.
We also look at some great 60s and 70s shows from the ITC stable being released on Blu-ray by Network. The ITC library contains many iconic programmes and it appears that many of these legendary shows - such as The Saint, The Prisoner and The Persuaders - are being fully re-mastered for Blu-ray. Since they were shot on 35mm film, and have been lovingly preserved over the years, they make wonderful viewing in the high definition medium, although the new super-duper clarity does expose some of the 'cheats' used in the filming, as you will discover from reading our extended review. We are getting a lot of feedback from readers who seem to love the DVD Retro section and rest assured that we hope to expand this even further in future editions.
There's certainly no shortage of product coming out from the likes of Renown, Optimum Entertainment and Odeon, while over in the States the Warner Archive continues to issue a formidable number of vintage titles on demand. I wonder how long it will be before UK studios offer the same service? Enjoy the mag and remember, only the young die good.
